Keskeneräisiä // Unfinished

Tässä jokin aika sitten (krhm, kaksi kuukautta jo) Norsis heitti ilmaan haasteen, jonka ideana on esitellä neljä keskeneräistä käsityötä. Ja minä otin kiinni, sillä mullahan näitä riittää - tällä aloitusten ja lopetusten suhteella voisin tehdä tämän haasteen vaikka kerran viikossa. Mutta sellainen itsetutkiskelu saattaisi pian muuttua liian masentavaksi, joten jos kuitenkin tämän kerran vaan. Olkaa hyvä - neljä keskeneräistä juttua Ikomin kätköistä. Ja koska täällä tällä hetkellä lähinnä neulotaan ja virkataan, on esiteltävä tavara sen mukaista.

Some time ago (well, two months ago already) Norsis did a challenge with the idea to show four of your unfinished craft projects. And I decided to follow her example, as I have plenty of those. Considering the ratio between my started and finished projects I'd have enough material to do this challenge every week. But that kind of self-examination could be too depressing, so maybe this one time is enough. Here you go - four unfinished projects from Ikomi's stash. And as I mostly knit and crochet these days, my projects all fall into these categories. 

1) Keltainen huivi, josta piti tulla Multnomah

Tämä huivi on aloitettu vuosi sitten, ja tikutettuani ainaoikeaa muutaman kuukauden säännöllisen epäsäännöllisesti pääsin vihoin kohtaan, jossa pitäisi aloittaa tuo feather&fan -reunus (onko sille muuten joku oma nimi suomeksi?). Siihen se sitten tyssäsikin, sillä olin lahjakkaasti laskenut silmukkamäärät väärin enkä saanut kuvioita osumaan kohdilleen sitten millään. Huivi jäi varsin dramaattisissa epäonnistumisen tunnelmissa varastoon ja odotteli siellä siihen asti, että Batman-huivi hiljattain valmistui. Sen tehtyäni nimittäin totesin, että eihän se F&F ihan mahdotonta olekaan, jos on lähtötilanne kohdillaan. Sovelsin kuitenkin sen verran, että nappasin reunuksen Batmanin kanssa käyttämästäni ohjeesta. Se oli vaan jotenkin paljon selkeämpi ja helpompi ymmärtää, vaikka lopputulos ehkä onkin vähän eri näköinen. Nyt näyttää siltä, että tästä saattaa sittenkin tulla joskus huivi, mutta kyllä siihen vielä varmasti aikaa menee.

1) The yellow scarf that was supposed to be a Multnomah

I started knitting this scarf a year ago and after going on and on with garter stitch for couple of months I finally got to the point where I was supposed to start knitting the feather&fan-border. And that's where I stopped, as I had counted my stitches wrong and couldn't get the repeats right no matter what. So I left this to wait (in quite dramatic circumstances actually, as I was very disappointed with the project) and didn't continue knitting it before I recently finished the Batman-scarf. While knitting that scarf I realized making the border wasn't that hard after all when the stitch count was right, and got finally the energy to pick this up again. I did make some slight changes though, as I took the border repeats from the patter I used with Batman. This scarf may look slightly different than supposed in the end, but understanding that other pattern was just so much easier for me. At the moment it seems like this might really become a scarf some day, but that day might still be far away.

2) Villapaita, jonka lupasin jouluksi 2010

Kyllä, menin lupaamaan jotakin näin isoa vaikka tiesin jo silloin että eihän siitä mitään tule. Mutta kun kovasti kinuttiin niin lupasin yrittää. Ja olenkin sitten siitä lähtien tuntenut syyllisyyttä siitä, ettei lupaus ole toteutunut. Tämän vuoden elokuussa paita on sitten vihdoinkin aloitettu, mutta saa nyt nähdä valmistuuko täksikään jouluksi. Kuvassa näkyvä osa ei kuitenkaan ole ainoa valmis pätkä, joten toivoa on vielä jäljellä.

2) The sweater I promised for Christmas 2010

Yes, I made such a big promise even though I knew it wouldn't end well. But as I was begged for so long I finally promised to try. And have felt guilty ever since because of not succeeding. This August I finally started knitting it, but we'll see it it's gonna be finished for this Christmas either. This isn't the only part ready, so there still is some hope left though. 

3) Asia, josta piti tulla pipo

Aloitettu kesäreissun hätkäsityönä, kun alunperin mukaan otettu työ ei sitten inspiroinutkaan (sekin odottaa keskeneräisenä jossakin). Tästä piti tulla pipo, mutta olen taas tainnut liioitella aloitusympyrän koossa niin, että lopputulos muistuttanee enemmänkin perunasäkkiä. Jättitukan kanssahan tämä on yleensä ihan hyvä juttu, mutta tällä kertaa piponalku taitaa olla liian suuri jopa rastapäälle. Työtä näkuu kuvassa ehkä kolmasosa, siitä voi päätellä ongelman laajuutta.

3) The thing that was supposed to be a beanie

Started as a emergency project during a summer road trip as the first project didn't inspire me at all (and still waits unfinished somewhere). This was supposed to be a beanie, but I guess I've exaggerated the size of the base circle (no idea what that beginning circle with increases is called officially) so this is more likely to be the size of a potato sack. Which is usually just fine when the recipient has huge hair, but this may be way too big to even a person with dreadlocks. You can see about a third of the project in the picture. That might tell something about the size of the problem.

4) Tulevaisuuden tassuttimet

Tämä projekti on aloitettu vasta viikko sitten, ja vaikka se eteneekin melko laiskasti, etenee se silti varmasti. Siitä tulee ranteenlämmitin (eli tassutin) minulle itselleni, eikä pariakaan toivottavasti tarvitse odotella liian pitkään. Bambuvillalankaa on aivan ihanaa neuloa ja odotan jo, että pääsen käyttämään näitä. Paistaa se päivä joskus keskeneräisten neuleiden risukasaankin.

4) The future mitts

This project was started only a week ago, and even though it's proceeding quite slowly, it's still growing. It's going to be a fingerless mitten for myself, and it hopefully doesn't have to wait for its pair too long. This bamboo wool blend is just lovely to knit and I'm waiting eagerly for the day I can start wearing these. There's still some light in the end of the tunnel of unfinished projects.
